Tennis Betting Tips
🥱 Retirement Rules
This is extremely important - if you do not read this, you could lose £100s or even £1000s!
Tennis betting is a little different to your regular betting as "retirements" can occur quite regularly. A retirement is basically when a player decides they can no longer continue, usually due to injury, and they concede the match to their opponent. Now we never see this in Football, as when a player is injured, they simply get substituted for another. As Tennis is a 1-player sport (apart from doubles), you can't sub another player in, and so retirement rules take affect.
In a nutshell, different bookmakers have different rules. Read our retirement rules guide to find out who's who, and if you're unsure then just pop a question in the group!
Tom's Tip: Even though you can lose money from retirements, it's sometimes a lot better just backing and laying the bet anyway as the loss is alot smaller than if dutching. Your funds may however be at risk.
😐😐 Betting On Doubles
Doubles tennis is fairly low profile, as far as Tennis is concerned. Matches are rarely shown on the TV, and the liquidity (amount matched) on the Exchange is far less than with regular singles Tennis. For this reason, just tread carefully when betting on doubles Tennis. You may find that your bets will end up being unmatched, and inplay doubles betting is pretty much impossible.
⏯ Inplay Betting
If you encounter any inplay Tennis offers, or just fancy a go at arbing inplay, please be very very careful. Inplay Tennis odds move EXTREMELY quickly. Try to wait for set breaks and change of ends to get bets on.
Tom's Tip: Always have Bet365 open so that you can see what the players are actually doing. If they are sat down, you'll usually have a little bit of time to place bets. If they are about to serve, you will see the liquidity disappear and you may be in trouble.
📈 Price Boosts
You may see lots of Tennis price boosts over in Profit Accumulator's Price Boost Forum post. This is fine, however please do check the rules with each bookie. Retirements can cause problems with boosts. Most bookies will just void your selection that has retired and will continue the rest of the boost, but at normal odds. This causes problems as it then changes your price boost from a profitable one to a simple qualifying loss trigger bet! Similar to my suggestion of laying bets before - it doesn't matter too much. Retirements will happen, and as long as you're constantly getting on boosts and profiting and happy to take the risk, then laying them may be fine.
