The Buildabet Guide

What Is A Buildabet?

Each site calls it something different. Pickyourpunt, buildabet, priceitup, requestabet etc. These all mean the same thing.

They have become popular in the past year as they are seen as more fun for punters to do.

There are two different types of 'buildabets':

1) Build Your Own You ‘build’ your own bet from two or more markets. For example, Man Utd to win and both teams to score.

2) Pre-Built The bookmaker gives you a list of bets to choose from. For example, 'Man Utd to win, Rashford to score and 3+ bookings'.

For matched bettors, some of these can be tricky as they are harder to lay or you simply can’t lay the bet at all.

However, because quite a few offers now stipulate using these markets, we will show you how you can profit from these!

Outplayed Bet Builder Helper

We'll explain more about how to lay these types of bets as this guide goes on. But here's a quick interjection to tell you that Outplayed.com make this process even easier for you with their Bet Builder Helper tool.

The Bet Builder Helper will show you a range of options that are allowed on specific bookmakers. Alongside the selections that make up the Bet Builder, it will show you the lay market on the exchange that covers that bet:

Let's take the 3rd row in the above screenshot for example. It's telling you that an option for a Bet Builder with 3 selections at William Hill is to add Draw, Under 2.5 Match Goals and also Both Teams To Score - Yes to build your back bet. This is the equivalent of 1-1 Correct Score so that's what you lay to cover that Bet Builder. It turns a tricky bunch of selections into one simple lay market that covers it.

Clicking on the lay market in the table will display a small pop-up showing what that market looks like on each of the exchanges:

How To Lay A Buildabet

1) Build Your Own

When a bookie offers you the ability to build your own bet, you can lay this by using:

  • Team to win, and
  • Both teams to score

This is because Matchbook have 'Team to win and Both teams to score' as one lay market.

So you place this as one back bet ('Team to win' and 'Both teams to score').

You can place one lay bet on this outcome on Matchbook.

These bookies offer the Build Your Own feature where you can lay 'Team to win' and 'Both teams to score':

  • Betfred - Pickyourpunt

  • Skybet - RequestABet

  • Betway - BetYourWay

  • Coral - Build Your Bet

  • Bwin - Build a Bet

  • Unibet - BetBuilder

  • Betfair Sports - Same Game Multi

Example - Bwin Build A Bet

Bwin offers you 10 free spins on Loot‘Enkhamun if you place a £10 bet on Newcastle Utd v Manchester Utd using their Build a Bet builder.

You choose:

  • Manchester Utd to Win
  • Both teams to score (Yes)

Bwin offer this at 9.0 back odds.

You then create this lay using the Matchbook lay market. Matchbook offer this at 11.0 lay odds.

You enter this into the Normal calculator and place your back bet and lay bet for a small loss. Job done!

FAQs

On Matchbook go to Other

Then you'll see Match Result and Both Teams To Score

In addition to Match Outcome & Both Teams To Score, you could also use the following markets:

Back: Match Outcome & Over/Under Goals (e.g. 2.5)
Lay: Match Outcome & Over/Under Goals

Back: Match Outcome DRAW & Under 2.5 Goals & BTTS-Yes
Lay: Correct Score 1-1

Back: Match Outcome  DRAW & Under 0.5 Goals, BTTS-No
Lay: Correct Score 0-0

Back: Team to win & Under 1.5 Goals, BTTS-No
Lay: Correct Score 1-0

Back: Team to win & Under 3.5 Goals, BTTS-Yes
Lay: Correct Score 2-1

The best time to place these bets is between a few hours up to the kick off of the match. This is when the odds are usually closest.

For most of these, you would use the  normal mode on the standard calculator.

If you are doing, for example, the Betfred bet £5 and get £5 free bet if your bet loses, you would use the refund mode on the calculator to help you lock in profit. Not familiar with refund offers, find more information here.

2) Pre-Built

Some bookies do not let you build your own. Instead, you choose from a range of pre-built bets.

Unfortunately, almost always you cannot lay any of these bets. This is because they will offer pre-built bets such as 'Rashford to score, 8+ corners and 2+ yellow cards'.

Example-William Hill #yourodds market

These are special markets that bookies have put together with preselected options. For example:
Arsenal to win by 2 goals, 4 corners in the game and 2 yellow cards at odds of 11.0
Say the offer is Bet £5 on a #yourodds market and get a £5 free bet if it loses.

You take a look at that and think you should avoid it, right? Can’t lay it and therefore I risk losing money, right?

No.

You can indeed benefit from these but using ‘advantage play’.

What Is Advantage Play?

Advantage play is when you give an edge to your bets. It's when you make the odds more in your favour. So..going back to our example..

In this case, if I bet £5 on the market and not lay it, and then my bet goes on to win, great! Quids in.

If my £5 bet goes on to lose, I get my £5 free bet and make £3.50 from it and so at worst case I’m down £1.50.

But, if you do these offers over time, eventually you should hit some winners and these will recoup your losses and bring you into profit.

Unlike other matched betting strategies, this one is longer term and based on the expected value over time. It’s important to ensure that there is an offer linked to these markets in order to give yourself this advantage as this is where the edge is and therefore, the profit.

The bookies that offer these preselected markets include:

  • Pokerstars Sports – Requestabet

  • BetVictor – #PriceItUp
  • Ladbrokes – #GetAPrice
  • Paddy Power - #WhatOddsPaddy
  • William Hill – #YourOdds
