Matched Betting Story: Leanne
About Me 🙂
Hello everyone and welcome to the start of my matched betting blog. I am a married mum of three boys and a granny to a gorgeous grandson and granddaughter. I live in a small village near Durham in the North East of England surrounded by beautiful countryside. Until recently, I had worked in education for over 20 years. However, due to my middle son’s recent health issues, I have decided to go back to university and I am now studying to become a registered nurse in the mental health field.
I needed a challenge and love to keep busy! I suppose I’m a bit of a geek and love studying. My goal is to be able to support my family through matched betting and working as a nurse, while still being able to look after my family. Which brings me to the reason I started this blog.
How and Why I Discovered Matched Betting
Last year my world was turned upside down when my middle son who was thirteen at the time ended up in intensive care. He was extremely poorly and was fighting for all he had. He ended up in ICU for over seven days. Those were the hardest days of my life, hands down, without a doubt. I have never felt fear like I did when I saw how poorly my son was and the feeling of helplessness was crushing.
He was diagnosed with diabetic ketoacidosis and his organs had started to fail. Just writing this makes me emotional again. We had no idea he was diabetic (type 1). He was misdiagnosed for over 2 weeks while he just steadily deteriorated, until finally he was rushed into hospital.
"In order to help my son as much as I can, I started researching the options."
So now, my son injects insulin up to five times per day and has up to 6 finger pricks per day. Due to him growing and his hormones changing, the diabetes is still not under control, in fact just last night he had a hypo (where his blood sugar levels drop) so it was another sleepless night for us all.
In order to help my son as much as I can, I started researching the options. I came across a new technology in the form of an artificial pancreas, although it has not yet been released, it should be available in the next few years. However, due to the cost, it is not expected to be available on the NHS, so we would need to fund it privately.
What are your financial goals with matched betting?
I started my matched betting journey after I stumbled across a post on facebook by one of my friends and was amazed that it was possible to actually make real money from matched betting. So I decided to look further into it and joined a few groups on facebook to see how others got on. At first I was very sceptical that I could achieve any kind of reliable extra income, so I spent a lot of time studying and researching (the geek in me again).
I finally found a group I liked where I felt able to ask ‘stupid’ questions and not feel embarrassed. This is where Team Profit came in, the friendliness and helpfulness of the members is always accurate and helpful without making you feel like an idiot for asking those questions you worry will be laughed at.
Once I was settled in the group, I found so many varied ways to make an income from matched betting and the world of matched betting started opening up for me. I decide then and there that I would make a goal for myself each month and try and meet my target or better it. Of course, in the beginning my target was only £200 per month, but as I my knowledge and confidence has grown with matched betting, my goal currently is £1000 per month.
This money was initially to help save for holidays or Christmas, just something I could add each month to help while I study. My new goal is now to raise enough money to allow my son to have an artificial pancreas. After speaking with a specialist, we have been told that when the operation becomes available the cost will be around £7000 for the initial surgery and then another £7000 per year for maintaining the pancreas.
I had never really spoken about this, but mentioned it one day in a team profit chat and was completely overwhelmed by the response i received from people wanting to donate to help me reach my goal. I had never thought about setting up a fund or anything but it made sense and after some virtual hand holding from Monika, Chris also got on board and that is how this whole thing started.
How have you found it so far?
I will never forget the first back and lay bets I placed and how terrified I was that I was going to mess it up. I placed the back bet, placed the lay bet then spent the next three hours checking and rechecking I had done it correctly.
The first time I used an exchange I was so worried I had backed instead of layed and my nerves were on edge until the bets finally settled. I spent the next few weeks feeling the same way after placing bets, but gradually I gained in confidence and found I could do both back and lays in a couple of minutes.
The hardest thing I found when I initially started was the bank building. The wait for money to come in from bookies or the exchange so that I could place more bets seemed to take forever. But slowly, I started to see my funds grow and of course my confidence along with it.
"There is nothing like the feeling of successfully placing a back and lay bet and seeing the profit you are making each and every day."
My love for matched betting has grown with each month and I can't see it stopping. It's like being paid for doing something I really enjoy. There is nothing like the feeling of successfully placing a back and lay bet and seeing the profit you are making each and every day.
To say that I am shocked at how well I have done is an understatement. Although I know there are others who are making a lot more than me, the amount I make every month is a massive help. I hope to carry on increasing and hitting my monthly target but I am taking it one step at a time.
I have added some articles into the group post about costs and looking at how the artificial pancreas works too if anyone is interested in reading them.
I would like to say a massive thank you to those members that pushed me into taking action, you know who you are, without your support I would never have set up a donations page or started this blog. Team Profit really has changed my life and will continue to do so long into the future.
Tips for matched betting newbies?
If I was to start my matched betting journey again, the biggest tip I have to share is…..patience. I know it can be really hard when you are waiting for funds to come through and you feel like you are missing out. But building your bankroll is fundamental in order for you to take advantage of other more profitable opportunities.
I set up a separate bank account just for matched betting and did not touch a single penny of it. I just let it grow, in fact, even though I have enough in my pot to do most offers daily, I still haven't touched any of it apart from to pay membership for a couple of matched betting services.
Do Your Research!
The second biggest tip I have is to read and learn as much as you can about every offer you do. Doing your own research is vital, if you are not sure about a particular bet type eg, accas go and watch some videos and try the training offered.
Learn as much as you can, so that you understand how to tackle each offer before you even think of using any of your cash. Even paper trade for a few weeks, to see if tackling accas is worth it for you or if you want to focus on another area such as 2up.
Every individual will have certain parts of matched betting that they use over and over without ever trying any of the other avenues, that is completely fine too. Just put the groundwork in before you try and take advantage of some of the harder offers.
Your favourite offers and weekly routine?
My weekly routine consists of a ritual I do each morning, I am quite strict with myself and treat matched betting like a job. Although I get to work when I want and have a break when I need one, it can be hard work at times, but I like the challenge.
After I have made myself a cup of coffee, I sit down with my laptop and phone to dissect the offers for the day. I use the daily offers calendar on Oddsmonkey and filter the results by most profitable first. I then check my phone for notifications for odds boosts and casino offers which I have set up through pushbullet. I find this invaluable these days and use it religiously.
Once I have tackled a few of the sports offers or any offers which are time sensitive, I move on to casino and start working my way through the daily offers. Coral, Ladbrokes and William Hill I do every day. There is always some offer or another and I particularly like the cash drop offers.
"I always have Facebook open too, this way I can see if there are any offers which have not been posted anywhere else"
Then I will move on to other offers posted in the daily offer calendar spreadsheet that some very helpful members of Oddsmonkey collaborated. Moving on, I check my email for reload offers, these can be a gold mine and because they are invitation only, you can make a good profit if you take advantage of them.
I always have Facebook open too, this way I can see if there are any offers which have not been posted anywhere else and the posts usually have tips on how to successfully complete the offers. During the day I record all of my profit/loss in a diary and then tally up at the end of that day.
I still use a good old fashioned pen and paper, but as I am going to be sharing updates each month, I will need to start using a spreadsheet to keep more accurate running totals.
Matched betting fits easily around my studying and caring for my family, I get to choose the hours I want to commit to it and I dont have anyone to answer to anyone, it's like my dream job!
